    How it works

    How a 5-stage cartridge works

Water passes through five layers inside the cartridge, each with its own job.

    1. 1

      Coarse screen

Catches larger particles such as sediment and rust flakes as water enters the cartridge.

    2. 2

      Distributor

Spreads the water evenly so it flows through the full depth of the filter media.

    3. 3

      Activated carbon

Helps reduce chlorine taste and odour and some organic compounds.

    4. 4

      Ion-exchange resin

Exchanges dissolved minerals and metals: what a TDS meter reads as total dissolved solids.

    5. 5

      Fine screen

A final fine layer holds back small particles before water reaches your reservoir.

Results vary with your local tap water. Use a TDS meter to check your own readings.

    Digital TDS meter

Measure total dissolved solids in your tap water and your filtered water. A rising reading on filtered water is a handy sign it may be time for a new cartridge.

    • Reads TDS (ppm), EC and temperature
    • TDS range 0–9990 ppm

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

How do I find the right refrigerator or faucet filter?

Look for the part number printed on your current filter or in your refrigerator or faucet system manual, then type it into the filter finder at the top of this page or shop by brand. Please confirm the part number matches before ordering. Questions? Email zerofilteronline@gmail.com.

Will the 5-stage filters fit my pitcher or dispenser?

Our 5-stage cartridges are made for round 5-stage pitchers and dispensers that use a twist-in cartridge. Compare your current cartridge with our product photos before ordering. Not sure? Email zerofilteronline@gmail.com and we will help.

Where do you ship, and how much is shipping?

We ship within Canada. Orders are processed within 2–3 business days, and shipping is calculated at checkout. See our Shipping Policy.

What does a 5-stage cartridge do?

Water passes through a coarse screen, a distributor, activated carbon, ion-exchange resin and a fine screen. Together these layers help reduce sediment, chlorine taste and odour, and dissolved solids. Results depend on your local tap water.

When should I replace my filter?

Filter life depends on how much water you filter and on your tap water. Check your filtered water with a TDS meter: when the reading starts to rise, or you notice a change in taste, it is time for a new cartridge.

Do I need to soak or flush a new filter?

No soaking or flushing is needed. Install the cartridge following your pitcher or dispenser instructions, fill the reservoir with cold tap water and let it filter through.

Which pack size should I choose?

Every pack contains the same 5-stage cartridge. Choose by how often you change filters. The price per filter for each pack is shown on the product page.
